First there was the secret iPad app hidden within the official Facebook iPhone app — and now there's a video chat feature inside the new Facebook Messenger app. When will the social network learn to stop hiding things?
It was barely hours after the Facebook Messenger app launched that the folks at 9to5 Mac discovered that it contains a video chat feature — or at least some of the components required for video conferencing. Apparently both the iPhone and Android versions of Facebook Messenger have "very rudimentary" code which references some sort of video calling. Unlike the hidden iPad app though, this feature can't be activated or used just yet.
It is speculated that the mobile video chat service would be linked to the Skype-powered video chat feature built into the Facebook website, but there is no official word from Facebook regarding any plans for such a mobile app addition at this point.
